Bergville

Bergville is a small town situated in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains

bergville Bergville is the biggest village in the Northern Drakensberg area and services tourism in this part of the Drakensberg region. Bergville is also a farming community with dairy, beef, maize and wheat being grown. Bergville also has a wide selection of amenities including supermarkets, butcheries, banks and petrol stations.

A visit to the Northern Drakensberg will almost certainly pass though Bergville as being the last oppertunity to fill up with petrol and get any missing supplies.

bergvilleBergville is equidistant from Johannesburg and Durban and is also known as the gateway to the Northern Drakensberg. It lies on Route 74 which is a more scenic alternative to the N3 Toll Road. This route takes you via the Oliviershoek Pass, traditionally used to access the Drakensberg, from Johannesburg and through Winterton from Durban.

Other towns in the immediate region include: Ladysmith on the R616. Geluksburg Jagersrust on the R74 towards Harrismith - serving as living quarters for the Drakensberg Pumped Storage Scheme
