Cleopatra Mountain Farm House

Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse offers a fine dining experience

The Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse is tucked away in the beautiful Kamberg Valley close to Giant's Castle Nature Reserve, which is deep in the foothills of the KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg. The area is ideal for swimming in crisp mountain streams, great mountain walks and hikes, and superb river and dam trout and bass fishing.

The Farmhouse is situated in a spectacular mountain valley setting with splendid views, gurgling crystal clear streams and waterfalls. Cleopatra provides the ultimate in peace, tranquility and solitude. It is best remembered as a restful refuge with professional, understated service, and a most memorable gourmet experience.

Accommodation at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse

Cleopatra has six luxurious en suite double/twin rooms, 2 spacious suites with queen beds and separate lounges, and one luxury suite with his and hers bathrooms, dressing room and fireplace in the lounge. All rooms have a TV, a separate bath, (except room 8), separate shower and separate toilets. All beds are dressed with cotton sheets, mohair blankets, heated under blankets and heated towel rails. Tea and coffee with homemade biscuits are also available in the rooms. Their attention to detail is abundantly evident.

Meals are a revelation at Cleopatra:

All Cleopatra meals are of the highest quality and define the Cleopatra experience.
Dinner is normally a sumptuous 6-course affair with no effort or expense spared, ensuring a memorable dining experience. The menu changes every evening according to the seasons and the availability of local produce. Fresh ingredients are always used, freshly picked from Cleopatra’s own gardens. Hours are spent finding local and imported ingredients of the highest quality – They even fly in fresh salmon from Norway and procure genuine Parma hams and cheeses from Italy.

Activities at Cleopatra Mountain Farmhouse

Visit the Highmoor Nature Reserve, just 5 minutes drive up a spectacular road, which windes its way to the top of Mount Lebanon and Cleopatra Mountain. Highmoor is renowned for its trophy trout, and the reserve is ideal for walks with the majestic Giant's Castle which towers above you. Eland, Mountain Reedbuck, Duiker and Baboons are often spotted. If you are really lucky you may also see rare Bearded Vultures, (Lamergeyer), and Veraux Eagles overhead.

The Kamberg Nature Reserve is only 15 minutes away and has some amazing San Rock Art caves, recently opened to the public with guides available to take you up to the mountain to see them.
At Giants Castle - a 45 minute drive away - you are in the heart of the mighty Drakensberg Mountains. Here you can walk to San Rock Art caves where a guide gives a comprehensive tour and explanation of the paintings. There are also other wonderful walks in the mountains – maps are available.

The Midlands Meander is a famous craft route with many stops offering a wide range of gifts, curios and local produce.

Horse Rides along the contours of the mountains taking in the crisp air and amazing views are really worth your time.

There are trips to the top of Sani Pass leaving at 9.30 a.m. & returning at 3.45 p.m. You must take your Passport & lunch is available at the top.
