Mooi River
Set in a panorama of natural beauty this area offers gracious splendor to rural simplicity with many varied and interesting places to visit. Mooi River is a small agricultural town and acts at the gateway to Giants Castle and the Natal Midlands.
The Mooi River experience
The town its self offers a little of tourism value besides an option to fill up with petrol and get some last minute supplies. But the area in general is a huge draw card. The area is home to several of South Africa’s finest stud farms of which several offer tours to visitors. The king of the local stud farms is Summerhill (0333 31314) which attracts clients from around the world and has won numerous awards. Visits take around an hour. For those who are looking for a convenient pit stop, the old station has been converted into the Station Masters Arms. Stud farms to visit, fly fishing, Drakensberg, Midlands Meander, battlefields, bush, flora and fauna, St. Andrew Church (dedicated in 1905), Zulu Dancing, museums, top schools and local arts and crafts to list but a few of the attractions.
Fly fishing
The Mooi River is more synonymous with trout and their acclimatisation in South Africa. It is also the river that has the longest length of suitable habitat for trout.
